Geo-Hydro provided geotechnical engineering, and materials testing and special inspections services for the $67MM expansion of the Friends Home assisted living facility in Greensboro, NC. The expansion included three main portions:
Wellness Center and Bistro Renovation – This area included an expansion of the existing dining room, a 2-story expansion of the existing wellness center and bistro, as well as expansion of the adjacent parking lot and the addition of underground stormwater detention and sand filters. Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls were constructed to allow for the building and parking construction.
Guilford Campus – Ten new single-story independent living duplex type housing units, two new bio-retention ponds, a new dry stormwater detention pond, and a new parking lot were constructed adjacent to the existing facility. The independent living buildings are wood frame construction with shallow foundations and a slab-on-grade floor system.
Farm Campus – Eleven single-story independent living housing units, 4 single-story townhome style units, and 3 three-story villa apartment style independent living buildings with underbuilding parking, as well as an expansion of the existing stormwater pond, and associated access roads and parking were built along with a new bridge connecting the Friends Guilford and West campuses.
Geo-Hydro’s working included Special Inspections services including all earthwork and fill testing, utility trench backfill testing, MSE wall installation testing, shallow foundations, timber pile installation observations, concrete reinforcing, post-tensioned concrete inspection, concrete placement and compressive strength testing, reinforced masonry construction, structural steel testing, spray applied fire resistive material testing, fire resistant coatings testing, wall penetrations firestop testing, exterior insulation finish system (EIFS) inspection, and pavement testing.
